Sophos SPX, mobile devices, and internet email accounts

We run Sophos SPX on ES1100 appliances and we need some advice: some of our important email recipients of encrypted email use internet or hosted email accounts, such as gmail or hotmail, and mobile devices, such as blackberries and iphones. Some functionality of SPX obviously will not work in that combination. Are there any best practices, recommendations or workaround solutions that anyone has used to address this? Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Can you provide us with an example of what specific SPX functions do not work with webhosted email accounts. If you have further questions or would like further assistance, please feel free to contact our support team.  They will be more that happy to assist in providing best practices and recommendations.

  • For example, Secure Reply link in the pdf does not work if the pdf is rendered and viewed on the blackberry. Any attachments within the encrypted .pdf are not available on the blackberry. The encrypted .pdf is not able to be retrieved at all from MSN.com or hotmail, on a mobile device such as iphone or blackberry. These features work from within the web browser on a pc accessing the same email. The reasons for this appear to be obvious functionality limitations of mobile device pdf readers, and what appear to be limitations built into mobile email services provided by msn or gmail, but our big question is how to approach our users with these questions?
