WCCP (ASA) and virtual web appliances

Hello,

I configured wccp on ASA to redirect port 80 & 443 traffic to one virtual web appliance and everything is working fine. However, I installed another virtual web appliance for load balancer via wccp. When I configured wccp for this new virtual web appliance, I got error because it seems wccp could not be redirected the same port (80) to two difference web filters. I called Sophos support and got info that yes, wccp will support that configuration. I called Cisco TAC and got confirmation that multiple wccp servers could not be in the service group. Would you please let me know if you setup two web applicances with the same network with wccp? How you configure them ( load balancer or manually...)

Thank you very much!!!

  • If you have more than 1 Sophos Web Appliance and you wish to put them into a logical cluster and present this to a WCCP router, you will need to use the Sophos Web Management Appliance.

The Sophos Management Appliance (SMA) is included with your Web protection license when you elect for a virtualised instance. You will need a seperate activation code from Sophos, so please consult your license schedule for information on how to download and activate your SMA; if you don't have this then please contact your Account Manager.

The SMA will act as a load balancer and present a virtual IP to the network, your WCCP configuration will use this IP and the SMA will take care of the load sharing.

When in doubt, Script it out.
