SEA - SMTP error : Too many connections, slow down.

Hello,

I have this "problem" when sending mass mailing to specific domain (exemple: @orange.fr), thousands of mails are "delivery temporarily suspended" and it take alot of time to send all ...

delivery temporarily suspended : host smtp-in.orange.fr[193.252.22.65] refused to talk to me: 421 mwinf5c15 ME Trop de connexions, veuillez verifier votre configuration. Too many connections, slow down. OFR004_104 [104]

There is a solution using Postfix directly, but is it possible to fix it in Sophos Email Appliance for specifics domain/host ?

I can reduce SMTP destination concurrency/recipient limit in SMTP Options, but it would affect all emails.

If someone has an idea...

Thanks!

  • Hi BenoitS,

I'm afraid you cannot tune the postfix settings in this level of detail.

Really, it shouldn't be too much of a problem because postfix uses adaptive concurrency.  Initially postfix will only use 5 connections at any one time and will tune this up accordingly:

    http://www.postfix.org/TUNING_README.html#rope

So I would only expect this to be a big problem if Orange have a very low concurrency limit of <5.

If that's the case, then reducing the concurrency limit may not make delivery much faster if you are sending 1000s of emails to them.  It may be best to use a different route for these mass  e-mails that won't have an impact on normal mail.

If it's causing you major issues we may be able to put in a custom postfix solution, but you'd have to discuss that through Tech support.

    Many Thanks,

    Tom.
