Outlook Add-in installation error

Yesterday I installed the Outlook add-in across the network.

On some computers we get a error when we start Outlook regarding the add-in.

I already tried to remove The remove the add-in, Office, VSTO 4.0, Dotnet 4.

And then reïnstalled everything. It did not work.

After that I removed everything again, reïnstalled office and let the add-in installation install VSTO 4.0 and the dotnet framework.

Still no succes.

Does anyone have an idea?

The eventlog shows the following:

(conversion not valid)

Eventlog entry: ERROR VSTO 4.0 eventid: 4096

  • Hi,

VSTO errors with the EventID 4096 are normally tied to something wrong with the .NET Framework 4.0 install. In your case, the invalid conversion reference tied to a timeout looks like the install was awaiting a response from some component that didn't respond in the expected period of time. However, we haven't seen this error before, so we'll need to investigate.

We should compare the differences between the computers where the Outlook Add-in install succeeded and the ones where it failed. From this one log output, this impacted workstation is running 32-bit Windows 7 SP1 -- is this the same version on the other computers? What version of Outlook is installed? What other add-ins are in use? Are there any specific Microsoft development tools installed on these computers? Did you try the install via GPO and standalone (it sound like you did, but just to confirm)?

At this point, it may be best to open a case with our support team (by phone or email) since we're likely going to have to look at all the installed components on these workstations with an SDU.
