Upstream (trusted) relays - PureMessage 3.1.2 - E2K7

Our incoming mail first transits through Postini filtering services, is not processed by our ISP (but of course still passes through the network infrastructure of our ISP), goes through our firewall (1-to-1 NAT), and then arrives at our mail server.

What IP addresses should I enter as Upstream trusted relays? Those of Postini only, since only Postini servers process our mail?

  • Hi,

You should add any server that's considered "within your organization" to the upstream trusted relays that accepts SMTP traffic before email arrives on the Exchange server. So if your MX records point to Postini, then you should add the Postini IP addresses, along with any ISP IP.

Upstream trusted relays allows PureMessage to determine the IP address of the immediate "untrusted" IP, which it will then verify its reputation for spam scoring. Letting PureMessage know which IP addresses it shouldn't look at allows for a more accurate score.
