PureMessage routing

Hi all,

I've set up PureMessage as an intermediate gateway between my incoming mail gateway and an Exchange server. I've added the mail gateway as a trusted server and can route messages from it to PureMessage. But I can't see how PureMessage knows to then route the mails to my Exchange server. Do I need to set up manual MX records? Or does PureMessage use Active Directory to find the correct route?

Thanks for any pointers.

  • Hi,

If you're running Pure Message for Unix then you would Click on Local Services, Click on Configure SMTP Service (it could be Postfix or Sendmail depending on your install) There is a field called Gateway: this is where you would place your internal SMTP server (Exchange).

  • And that was my mistake - I was looking in the app not in the native SMTP settings. I'm using the Windows SMTP service but the concept is the same.

For anyone else who's stumbled on this, you need to run the IIS Manager console then go to properties on the Default SMTP Virtual Server and set up your internal mail server as the smart host (Delivery tab, Advanced button).
