Fitlet X

Compulab have just announced a new range of fanless mini PC's, one of which the has 4 intel NICs.

It has an AMD A4-6400T SoC though, so I was wondering how this would perform with Sophos UTM. What sort of throughput could be expected from that CPU?

    The Fitlet´s are incredible devices - I personally also use one as my mobile UTM. Just at this moment writing this post from my holiday in finnland sitting behind my Fitlet iA10 with 4GB of mem and a 120GB SSD connected via Huawei E3372 LTE USB Stick 10MBit running 9.314 UTM. Sadly the atheros mini PCI-E wifi card didn´t arrive before holiday, so I'm still using a external AP30 connected to it instead the internal WIFI (will change after holiday, as the atheros card should wait at home now in the meanwhile - hope UTM will work with it as internal AP. (Sadly the intel cards aren´t supported, so the 7260 AC card is laying around now ;o))

    This Fitlet is perfectly sufficient for a normal UTM usage, as CPU is sitting in my case mostly between IDLE and maybe up to 25% with web proxy, ATP and IDS/IPS (and WIFI) on.

    Besides of getting little hot (nearly 50 degrees) this small device is absolutely incredible and recommendable...[:D]

    Thought it may be time for an update:

    I did end up running the fitlet for months with a cheap laptop cooler under it - absolutely no issues then. 

    Before I tried the cooler I did try some other RAM including two different types of DDR3L - one of those was the Kingston one in fact. Still caused shutdowns . . .

    I've found out recently that a SDD can really push up the temp of the fitlet. there are power management fixes for Mint described - may try some time on Sophos? Found up to a 20 degree c difference on the SDD when power save mode is enabled.

    Right now I'm not running the Fitlet with Sophos - I have a mint box 2 as well and have vsphere installed - just use Sophos UTM in a VM. Super stable, heatsink on Mint box 2 works wonderfully - can actually touch it!

    Will prob try again once they release the new heatsink for it.
