[9.165][FEATURE] logging of SPX encryption

I'm glad to see that SPX encryption is coming over from the Classic Sophos product.  I have it at one client site, a medical clinic, and it's very cool.

However, the docs won't be satisfied if they can't easily confirm that the documents are being encrypted.  Soooo, I don't think we'll be able to sell the UTM's SPX where HIPAA is a requirement unless the fact of encryption is logged somewhere.  At the very least, in the SMTP logfile, but, preferably, also on the 'SMTP Log' tab in Mail Manager and User Portal.  The ability to schedule a monthly report, as in Web Protection Reporting, also would enhance the attractiveness of the Encryption offering - in fact, that would be all that was necessary.

Another client is a military contractor, and I bet he would have similar requirements.

While this is being done for SPX, wouldn't it also be nice to do it for PGP and S/MIME?

    I fully agree with Bob.

    I got already in the last years often questions due missing pgp and s/mime logging since ASG7.3, where the utimaco engine was replaced by sophos (astaro's) own engine, and this question definately will be an issue too for spx.

    So i personally would consider this a bug, rather than a "missing feature". Hope the devs and PM's agree with this classification and implement this during beta.

    In such cases I like to citate a nice guy, who wrote once:"The s**t works right shouldn't be a feature..."

    Otherwise it looks like spx is becoming another really nice and useful UTM enhancement to make customers feel little better in a obviously espionage ruled world...

    Thanks Bob and Sascha for the feedback. Considering this "feature" is essential for debugging and for an easier customer experience of using the SPX Encryption, will open a Mantis asap, with the hope that it will be implemented during beta. [:)]
