[8.200][BUG][OPEN] IPv6 DHCP server fails to assign an address

If I manually configure an address in the PC (w7 64) I get IPv6 connectivity. But DHCP fails to assign and address.

Does the other device get an address correctly?  Does it help if you disable, then enable that particular DHCP server instance?

On occasion, a win7 x64 client of mine has problems obtaining an IPv6 address when rebooted.  In this case it is definitely a problem with the client, but the solution is to do an ipconfig /release6, ipconfig /renew6.  Maybe this will help you, although it looks more like an issue with the server (Astaro) side from the log info.

I was experiencing a few odd anomalies with 8.200 yesterday (other than confirmed bugs that have already been reported).  A reboot of the Astaro cleared them up.

Hi Scott,
would you please correct the spelling of assign in the thread heading.

Until I tried the PC the only other device had been a MAC which I have to manually assign an IPv6 address to, so I was not aware of this problem.

This PC quite happily picks up an IPv6 address from my main ASG using DHCPv6.

I have restarted the DHCP server and the ASG a number of times before posting the log extract. It doesn't make sense to me.

Ian, maybe post an image of your IPv6 DHCP server setup. I have a few different systems, no Mac's, but they all work well with DHCP and the ASG.

BTW Scott, I found that the Dibbler client.conf file needs to be edited to get IPv6 DHCP to work on XP. You have to remove the '#' sign on the GUID line.. the first parameter.

I have problems with dhcpv6 too. It is not the same error you have in your logfile. But in my situation dhcpv6 restarts everytime when a client aksks for a lease.

Hi folks,
I am using the ASG that doesn't assign IPv6 using DHCPv6 with a manual config.

I have included 3 screen shots from the ASG dashboard etc.

Update: While experimenting I increased the scope range to a000 to afff and the DHCPv6 server assigned a5e0 to the MAC.

Looks like the range on this ASG using A0-AF is too narrow. Where as on the other ASG the same range works fine.Still a bug.

Using the guest wireless connection and I get both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses assigned.

The guest wireless connection is a straight WLAN in its own right, not bridged.

The IPv6 DHCP server range is C0 to CF similar to the one that won't allocate an IPv6 address.
