The download you tried is for XG hardware. For SW installations I suggest you try this

For me, it's really hard to understand, why sophos is not able to create a Error Message that is telling what's the Issue when uploading wrong Firmware Images.

It wouldn't be that hard to give a propper Error Message to the User.

I agree. I will create a feature request
