Sophos SG210 not accepting USB boot stick

We have several Sophos SG210 which we want to update from the UTM9 firmware to the XG firmware SFOS-19.5.1-MR-1-Build278. Several USB sticks working on newer SG210 machines with a vertical power I/O switch on the back and almost all older machines with a horizontal power switch are working but some are not. No matter which USB port, no matter if we use USB 2.0 sticks or USB 3.0 or USB 3.1gen2 sticks (all working on the other machines), don't boot on these some older machines.

As far as I know, there is no way to do an upgrade from SG/UTM to XG firmware other than via a boot stick?

The only difference is a minor hardware revision, all are major HW revision 3, but the new ones (all booting flawless from USB) have a newer minor HW revision.

Any idea how to get SFOS on to them? They just end up in a boot loop trying to boot from USB. Unplugging USB results in booting from SSD and back into the old UTM/SG firmware like before.

  • You may use a USB-DVD device.... or (like me) a DVD emulating HDD. (link or vendor per PM if you need)
