I upgraded my home XG hardware today.

This is the second attempt to post this, first attempt just vanished.

This might seem like the wrong forum, the post is about licencing issues.

The issues I came across after the inital software installation. New hardware now sits at 26w. i3-6100, ddr4 8gb, dual intel nic card, 750gb 7200rpm disk. The disk is one I had the performed at 6gb/s. The disk needs to be replaced with a lower power device and Sophos need to do something about the i219 lan cards.

1/. had to activate again

2/. had to synchronise again

3/. no place to restore a configuration until activation and synchronise

4/. home licence has expired - 5th Jan 2016

5/ restore does not restore password

6/. restore restores your adsl ip address so you have no idea if the connections are correct

7/. I cannot find my XG or SFM licences on any of the mySophos pages to see what has gone wrong

8/. anti-virus fails to update, even after restarts and two hours later.

9/. ap10 would not activate until deleted and accepted.

editted - added extra details and additional issues. Iwill have to rebuild this just ot get the licence working. Also the 760gb is way to big, takes forever to restart because of the scanning of the reports partition.

  • Changed to a smaller ssd, 240gb. Installs very quick, restarts very quick and scans rhe report partition quickly.

Had the same issues as before when performing a fresh install. So, I checked my daily reports for licence details and found I was using the wrong licence.

I had been using the beta licence which has of course expired by now.

Used the correct licence and the update process is proceeding slowly, line speed is the limiting factor. My licence shows unsubscribed and the licence will not synchronise after the restoration of a backup. Again, passwords default.

Still having the same issues with the AV, both packages show as downloading, but there is no network activity and Avira has failed again.

  • Hi Ian,

If your usage falls within the appropriate definition then you can get a Home use license here: https://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-xg-firewall-home-edition.aspx. This will consume up to 4 cores and 6GB RAM - you server can be more powerful but only that much resource will be utilized.

Your Beta license will have expired so start afresh with a new serial using the above link.

I can't comment on the technical issues you face - hopefully someone with an Eng / Support background will comment further.

    Paul

  • So in order to get around the beta license, we have to wipe our installs, reconfigure the device, and upload the saved config?

Why on earth can we not just activate our firewall and upgrade it from beta license to home use license?  What year is this again?
