Device names are in form of serial numbers. Can I change this?

Hi,

I am exploring Sophos CENTRAL now with a bunch of XGS firewalls and Intercept-X installations and one thing that bothers me a lot is that firewalls in logs, alarms, events and such are all named by SERIAL NUMBER. Like in example below. It is really non-friendly, as I spend a lot of time to decypher, what's going on where between which devices.

How can I change this to display friendly DEVICE NAMES instead of serial numbers?
Of course I have all firewalls friendly named in each XGS own config, but that looks like does not translate to "Device" field, which is in use by Sophos Central.

  • It took me some 10 minutes to find out, where to add a label. But this is now becoming more and more confusing. I have:

    • firewall FQDN, set for each firewall and also SSL certificate bind to that name, which is different than...
    • firewall NAME, set at firewall level, which might be different than...
    • firewall NAME IN CENTRAL, which must be different than...
    • firewall LABEL in central firewall management

....but adding a LABEL seems does not influence firewall name in LOGS and ALERTS pages, where under DEVICE column it is still shown by serial number only.

  • The Label will only be a cosmetic addon to the firewall management - It is not changing the configuration or anything on your Firewall.

But it helps to better navigate.
