Installing SW-20.0.1_MR-1-342 on SG 115 and can't access 172.16.16.16:4444

Hey everyone,

I'm pretty new to Sophos and networking in general, so this might be a dumb question, but I was recently given a SG 115 appliance to play around with and figured I would install Sophos Firewall v20 MR1 on it instead of UTM. So I figured that part out and I think have successfully gotten it installed, but when I want to access the setup wizard at 172.16.16.16:4444 I can't seem to make a connection. I'm using a little LTE modem that I have connected to the WAN port and have my laptop connected to the LAN and set that to 172.16.16.17 255.255.255.0 manually.

The things I'm question is whether it matters that my laptop is using a different router for internet access (wifi) then the Sophos is (that portable modem) and if the WAN port on the SG 115 is even enabled by default because there are no lights on that port like the LAN port has. I wouldn't have thought the Sophos needed internet access while doing the initial setup, but again, this is all new to me.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

  • Hi,

please ignore the labels on the ports, the software version uses different port assignment process. You should change your laptop to DHCP and then shift its connection between ports until you receive an IP address. More than likely yo are connected on the WAN port.
