configure PPPoE XG86 with router with built in GPON ONT (Nokia FTTH Modem)

Hi all,

Today I have a new problem which dates back more than 3 months to configure the firewall with the Nokia FTTH modem in bridge mode.

-Sophos XG86w

-FTTH modem Nokia: G-1425G-B

The Device is a router with built in GPON ONT - it is for broadband networks and appears SME/consumer

At first, the provider's support found it difficult to configure it in bridge mode, and its configuration is actually different from the others.
but they still managed to make a configuration that they announce is bridge mode, using connection type IPoE !?

and wan configuration:

when I tested directly with my laptop by creating a pppoe connection with the username and password, I connected to the internet and the network
card took the dedicated fixed public IP address. so so far things look good.

So I still had to configure the wan connection of the sophos firewall in pppoe and connect, unfortunately it takes a long time to show me a message that it cannot establish a connection!

And the wan interface doesn't get public ip address..

There are only these records on log viewer:

So i don't know if this ftth modem is really on bridge mode!?

when I searched on the internet, there isn't much apart from a post on a generic forum:

maybe from point 4, there is a specific configuration to do for the sophos wan port!

so we need to configure my downstream home router with the ISP’s PPPoE username and password. And enable vlan interface for the actual IP from ISP.

"enable vlan interface for the actual IP from ISP." : i don't know waht does it mean and how to configure it !!??

Besides, I don't know if this is what should be done

Thank you

  • So the VLAN of a PPPOE you can configure in SFOS itself:
Instead of configuring PPPOE on your Interface, add a VLAN:

  •   hi !

thanks, indeed, I created the tagged wan and I was able to connect with PPPoe, but I have a speed problem..very very slow during web requests.
I isolated the firewall, and I created a PPPoe connection on a laptop directly connected to the ONT modem, and there the speed is very very good without any problem.!
How to check this slow access problem using a firewall, knowing that I created a default rule  LAN --> wan without access restrictions and without any filtering, just to test the access speed

  • Try the following: Checkthe browser F12 developer tools to find out, what causes a slow speed, DNS, webdownload etc.
