Important Note on EOL Sophos RED Support:

The legacy EOL RED 15, RED 15w, and RED 50 are not supported in v20 MR1. Customers using these devices should upgrade to SD-RED or a smaller XGS appliance before upgrading to MR1 to maintain connectivity. See the following article for details: Sophos RED: End-of-life of RED 15/15(w) and RED 50

  • Is this KBytes or Kbits?

Recently my wan link was upgraded to 1000/50. I have experimented with the values in the fields and even when set at 1000Gb/s I only get around 550-550 download.

From past experiments the XG115w could only download at about 700-750 max occasionally. The RSP acknowledges that maximum download is usually around 950Mb/s due to overhead limitations in the NBN.

  • It is Kbytes.

In general, download traffic shaping mainly depends on website and ISP. If Website computes or network bandwidth is low, applying bandwidth at SFOS won't help much.

  • Hi Sanket,

the setup worked when I had the 250/25. I am trying to establish limits so the VoIP service has a guaranteed allowance has in the past.

I will try again with more testing.

  • Dumb question. If they are Kbytes why do I need the setting to be equivalent to 6,400,000 (8 x 800,000) to achieve 500Mbps?

  • Kbytes internally converts it into Kbits (*1000).

ISP generally provides bandwidth in "bits per second" unit so as an admin, total WAN bandwidth needs to be applied on UI by dividing it by 8 (/8). I understand it's annoying thing for admin and we need to streamline this bandwidth units at many places.

Reg. your current observation, if you already have higher bandwidth set (1000/50) than what ISP or website is capable to pump, you can't shape it further!
