Sophos Home Firewall and Access Point

Hi,

the ap120 works with the software licence and can be managed from the XG. The al6 420 can be managed from its interface or  cm but not the XG regardless of model. The xg87 does not have an inbuilt wifi only the xg87w.. you will need a subscription to manage the ap6 from central.

the xg87 has the same features as the software licence. The xg87 hardware is eol early next year.

The ap will need its own power source.

So I could manage the ai6 420 with the admin dashboard. There is no need for the Sophos Central to manage it, right?

thanks. It seems they really want to push your data into the cloud by making local management progressively more difficult. No reason why access points shouldn't be manageable from the firewall, the ability is already there why not utilize it.

The reason is easy: APX uses a different approach in terms of API Calls than AP6. 
AP6 is fully managed by a API based approach. While Firewall uses awed. 

There are different sub systems working here. 

"Ability is already there" is not true.

Excuse me a little confused
So I can login in to Sofos Firewall Web and assign SSID and Passwort to AP6 and then connect over WLAN to AP6?
Is that correct. I don't need more.

So to speak: You can login to the local webadmin of the Access point. There you can setup SSIDs.

You cannot manage the access point from the firewall. 

The central management component (via webadmin in Central) is limited to a subscription.

Means basic configuration is possible to Firewall WebAdmin when I use an AP6
Like: SSID, Password

Just to be clear: The config for wireless are NOT in the firewall. You can access the access point itself via its own IP. And it has an own webadmin to configure wireless.

There is 0 relationship between SFOS and AP6. 
AP6 has no integration to a Firewall product like UTM or SFOS. 

The AP6 will get an IP - You can access the IP with a Password and setup your configuration.

A management platform for AP6 is Central - It has a subscription and is not for free.

Of all your answer I realize that I don't need Sophos Central, right?
The configuration of that is done at the AP6 with the IP given and then accessing the WebAdmin on AP6
