Lost access/ internet after creating a bridge

I'm using port 1 as LAN, port 2 as WAN, and port 3 as backup WAN.  So far, so good.  I decided to try creating a bridge, since, why not?  I have excess ports.  I chose ports 5 and 6, assigned both to LAN, and gave it an IP address of 192.168.1.x.  My firewall has IP of 192.168.1.1 btw.  All of a sudden, I lost internet, wired/ wireless.  My wired PC connected to the network can no longer access 192.168.1.1.  How do I fix this?

I don't have a console cable.  Any other way to reach it again via other ports?

  • Hi,

what sort of hardware are you using? Is port 4 configured for access? Do you have a backup of the configuration before you changed the interfaces configuration?

  • I am using old Sophos firewall XG 135 appliance. I don't have the latest backup, but I have something that is good enough for it to work. So does that mean load backup?

I don't understand what configured for access means, therefore, most likely not :-) Port 4 originally unbound, so as the rest, except for 1, 2 & 3.

  • Hi.

if you can't access the device you can't load the backup. I was asking if port 4 was configured for any form of access.

You can perform a hardware reset and then load the backup.

  • Saw that I can by plugging usb in and have backup renamed as restore.abf? Or can't I?

  • Hi  jang430

Try to access the firewall with WAN IP and enable appliance access from console this might help to revert back the changes

enable it with the following command.

    system appliance_access show

    system appliance_access enable

    system appliance_access disable

  • Hi  jang430

if you want a redundant connection between your switches, try to set up a LAG instead of a bridge.

Use a different, unused network range on the interfaces instead of using the same one.
