How many LAN interfaces does Sophos Firewall support?
I am aware that the maximum no. of VLANs supported is dependent on the ethernet controller - see Sophos Firewall/Sophos UTM: VLAN limitations based on chipsets on network modules - however I am in the process of configuring Sophos Firewall as a virtual appliance in an environemnt where multiple LAN (not VLAN) interfaces will be added over time. I therefore wanted to confirm if there are any limitations / whether there is a maximum number of LAN interfaces that can be assigned to the appliance?
Thanks in advance
AFAIK, there is no real limit from Sophos, it is thhe hypervisor-platform that sets the maximum.
For example, I ran into the limit on VMware ESXi myself: there is a maximum of 10 nics per vm.
See here: https://configmax.esp.vmware.com/guest?vmwareproduct=vSphere&release=vSphere%208.0&categories=1-0
So even the newest version is "only" supporting 10 nics.
I had to restore a backup from a Sophos hardware with 24 interfaces for analysis purposes, I ended up with using a server with 6x 4 port GBE cards.
