Strange behaviour over FTP

Hi everybody,

I'm experiencing a weird situation about a FTP Server (classic Filezilla) reached over the WAN (Static IP) from multiple sites (branch office like) over FTP (no SFTP, no TLS).

Ok, since 3 days one of this sites cannot connect over FTP, firewall doesn't let the request in.

Before everything worked pretty fine (only some requests refused because XG took them as FTP Bounce attack) but while looking at logs I found another weird detail, til it worked (the FTP connection) worked once with the appropriate(rule for FTP only) firewall and NAT rule, later with another rule absolutely not related with the FTP-thing.

Now it doesn't work at all, I tried to reach the server from my office and collegue house but we cannot reach the FTP server while the other FTP users can reach and download contents without issues at all.

Any idea?

Thank you a lot

  • Hi Luigi Merola

Please share the current firmware version running on Sophos XG

Also, share the firewall rules configured for FTP Server and packet flow under packet capture passing from the same firewall rule.

Does your FTP server serve the request if the configuration is fine from Sophos XG?
