Sophos APX causes network loop

Hello everyone,

after restarting the two APX 120 that we are using, a network loop is caused. If I disconnect the AP´s from the network, everything works fine again. I have replaced all cables and used different ports. They are directly connected to the switch via POE.

I don't know what to do here. The switch also reports loop counts for the specific ports

Can someone help?

Thanks a lot Slight smile

  • Hi,

if i put one by one online everything works fine. It seems that the error persists when both devices start up at the same time (firmware upgrade).

  • To clarify: it happens _only_ if they both start simultaneously? If you wait until one is up and then boot the second one, does everything work. Or do you mean that they can't currently both be online at the same time without problems?

  • My wild guess is that he maybe tried to setup a mesh, then abonded that and now has a messy config on those two APs, which causes the to go in a loop when both are cabled to the same network.

To clean things up, you should connect only one AP, let it boot und update itself the whole way through (this can take a quarter of an hour), then clear every config on the UTM for the APS and start from new.

After the first one works, disconnect that from the net and power. Now you make the same for the second AP, to see if that is ok.

If this is ok, too, you could start a new AP-config with two AP connected at the same time.

  • Hi Philipp,

this is not the case. We didn´t try that. But i will give it a try.

The problem just appeared with the old XG. Then I thought that the old AP have a defect. Now we switched to a new XGS and bought 2 new AP at the same time. However, the error still occurs.

  • Hello Henning,

did you try one by one? First AP, see if it works, then take this offline. Then test the same with the second AP, does it work?

So if both work when being the only AP connected to the same managing system, there must be an error in the general network configuration.
