AP55 and APX120 performance differences

Hi folks,

I have recently upgraded my AP55/c to APX120.

I have noticed a performance decrease with the APX120.

Devices were able to connect to the 5ghz SSIDs at up to 866mb/s on the AP55s where as the maximum on the APX120 is 412mb/s.

I have checked the configuration of the APX and cannot see any different settings than on the AP55s.

Devices used a re W10 on an intel NUC, iPad, iPhones, mac mini (early 2020). All devices are running the latest version of OS.

Looking for others experiences with APX120s.

Ian

My XG is running V18.0.4 MR-4 with AP firmware 11.0.014-1.

  • I will swap them around, one only uses the 2.4ghz channels.

This has been an issue sine I installed them to replace the AP55s with the same setup.

  • Hi,

swapped the devices between networks after disabling the groups. All devices back online still showing the same connection speeds. W10 after a power off and on is 412mb/s.

  • As far as i know, windows uses the channel width and calculate the max speed based on this. Seems like its stuck by 20 MHz, not 80.

    Which Channel do you use?

  • I use auto channel configured for 80 Mhz. With the AP55s the same W10 connects at 866 Mhz, so did the Apple devices.

  • Hi,

here are a couple of screenshots, the first is from the APX120 and the second from an AP55.

Interesting observation, the Apple devices drop connection speed on the AP55 when idle, but on the APX120 they don't. SO that to me indicates that the APX120 is running a newer version of the WIFI standard that makes the Apple devices much happier.

I think the above screenshots make the issue very clear.

  • Just to 10c more, the devices on the 2,4ghz SSID used to be able to connect at 72 or 144mb/s now can only connect at 68mb/s.

  • Have a look if network card driver supports to force connection speed, some cards do, if it does, rry to force it somewhere up from 72Mbit, just to test if it connects

  • Hi,

thank you for your thoughts on the subject. It is not just one device it is any device that connects the 2.4ghz SSID on the APX120.

Tomorrow, I will do a temporary network re-arrangement so I can have the APX120 and the AP55 on line at the same time so I cn the screenshots and post.

  • Here is the AP55 2.4ghz SSID bandwidth connections.

I will update this post with the APX120 2.4ghz SSID connections shortly.
