Apple DEP - Devices show Unmanaged

Trying to get our Mobile Control Setup via Sophos Central.  We successfully enrolled with Apple and Verizon to get our deives to show up in the portal throught the Apple DEP program but the 5 devices that we have recently purchased and that show up in mobile portal  show they are Unmanaged.  I'm not understanding how that can be because out of the box upon turn on it ran through the enrollment process...what am I missing.  any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

  • Hi

I've got a DEP enrollment with 126 devices in it. I've seen this happen a few times and it generally is caused by the users restoring previous iPhone setting once we hand it over.
So the stages I saw were like this:

Phone arrives from Apple, we unbox it and activate the device, it goes through the DEP to Sophos process and Sophos installs our profile including some basic apps ( email, workspace, security )
We assign the user to the phone and send profiles to it for email, WiFi etc.

Hand the phone over to the user - everything is managed.
they then install their iCloud or iTunes account and restore from another device - this breaks the management of the phone totally.

Even if the apps are still installed and Sophos Mobile control thinks its working - it won't sync.
Happily, the resolution for us was to get the user to delete the Sophos Mobile Control app, then install it again from the App Store, the connection was restored and became managed again without further intervention.

    Hope this helps.
