How does the compliancy policy and iOS updates work?

Hi,

I've implemented a compliancy policy where devices need to have a minimum of iOS 14.8 and a maximum of iOS14.8.

but non of the devices are actually updating to iOS14.8.

Is there a way i can have Sophos update the devices to the required iOS version or is this a very manual job where you have to update all the devices (depending on their current iOS ) to keep updating these until they reach the required version?

Ive tried this with Task bundles but most of the updates seem to be not successful or not updating to 14.8.

  • Hello Simon,

Thank you for reaching out to the Sophos Community.

Is it possible for you to go to the "Tasks" tab of one of the mobile devices where this process has failed? If you can provide me with a screenshot with the results listed next to the tasks generated on the device, I can advise further. You can also use the "magnifying glass" on the left-hand side of the "Tasks" tab to see further details on why the task didn't complete successfully.

One limitation I was able to find is that this task will only succeed on devices that are enrolled as "Supervised."

I recommend ensuring that the mobile devices have a recent "Last SMC synchronization" timestamp, as this will tell you if the SMC application is opened in the background of the phone. This will allow the task bundle to be sent/received successfully.

Feel free to reach back out on this thread if you're unable to get this to work.
