Disable Contact Syncing

We are thinking through the security implications of allowing users to install apps on their own devices, we see the hypothetical situation where a rogue app harvests our full address list, which includes SBSB-business contacts.

Is it possible that we can prevent/disable contact syncing? Or another way to address this same issue? It may be through Sync policies or restriction policies, or Exchange Active Sync, or some other mechanism, I'm not sure.

We're interested in the result more than the mechanism, so please feel free to offer alternate suggestions if they seem preferable/possible, though having a switch somewhere in SMC to say "don't sync contacts" seems preferable if possible.

  • Hello JD Snyder,

if you use the SSE App you can forbid the export of your contacts to the device.

After the unchecking of the box the user cant export the contacts to the local phone book. The contacts are only available in the SSE Container App.

Create a new Profile -> Sophos Container Policy -> Add configuration -> Corporate eMail -> Fill the fields and uncheck "Export contacts to the device"

    or

Edit your existing Profile -> Uncheck "Export contacts to the device"

I hope I could help you

    Best regards
