Server 2012 Compatibility

Just to clarify,

Version 3.1.3+ will run on 2012 how ever you are limited to exchange 2010+

Version 4+ is the best choice for 2012 + Exchange 2013+

If you go the 4.1+ route you will not be able to transfer your configuration / database directly.  So I would export any text / rules to flat files so you can re-import them.  As for the DB create a new one for 4.0, the only thing it really does is hold spam and configuration stuff. If you really wanted to keep the spam I suppose you could select it out and import it to the new DB but in all honestly its probably not worth the effort.

Just to clarify. We are going to go down the Pure Message V3.1.3 route. Is this compatible with Server 2012 R2 as the Sophos documentation only mentions Server 2012 for V3.1.3?

That's correct, puremessage doesn't really care what OS its running on it cares what version of exchange its working with. so 3.1.3 works with 2008 and 2010 but will not work wit 2013 due to changes that ms made.. so that's when you need 4.0+ .
