iPhone Video| Web Proxy

Hi

I noticed when my iPhone goes via the UTM Web Proxy.

Video Playing would be a problem.

Example:

1) YouTube App - Click on a video and it shows General Error regardless of the quality.

2) Video inside Facebook - Shows the Play with a / across it to show cannot play.

3) Video inside Safari Browser on websites - Play (Triangle) symble with a / to show cannot play.

I am sure it is due to Web Proxy as if I by pass it - everything works.

Ideally I would like the Web Proxy to protect me against malicious likes ( hey at least the Ad Blocking does remove most ads)

Any Idea?

    Have you tried with Safari from your laptop?

    I'm not seeing this behavior with my iPhone 3G on iOS 4.2.

    I only used IE9 and Firefox (All Latest Version)

    Just a example

    recent Sandy Storm - many website would be those text with short videos (not necessary hosted at you tube)

    laptop - plays fine.

    iPhone - The "Cross" symbol (Circle with the Triangle Play Symbol and a slash)

    By Pass iPHONE on the Web Proxy via the following steps and everything is fine.
    Transparent mode skiplist
    Skip transparent mode source hosts/nets (Add iPhone here)
    Allow HTTP/S traffic for listed hosts/nets (Check this box)

    Just not cool that my web proxy is not protecting me and the ads are back on my apps (Hey quite cool to block those web ads)

    If you use an IOS device to watch a videostream, this is not really a stream, you download this video. This is the reason, why the selection of "Bypass content scanning for streaming content" -there is no effect..

    Just to share my troubleshooting.

    1) Noticed that under Exceptions the following exist (Added by Astaro)
    iphone/iPad youtube
    [Work around iPad/Iphone Byterange Bug]
    Skipping:
    Antivirus / MIME type blocking / Content Removal
    Matching these URLs:
    ^http://[A-Za-z0-9.]+\.googlevideo\.com/videoplayback

    It is Enabled - I did not touch it - but I only noticed it now.

    2) Disabled - Block Spyware infection and communication
         Did NOT work.

    2) Disabled: Block URLs with a reputation below a threshold of: Unverified
        Did NOT work.

    3) Disabled: Block these website categories:
        Did NOT work.

    4) Monitor Log: Below i used the You Tube Application and simply click on a video -

    Same here... well: similar. 

    My sophos firewall 9.100-16 blocks iTune podcast "downloads" to iPhone & iPad as well as some video streams e.g from ProSieben.de - TV Programm .
    Funny: it doesn't block on PCs. .. and it might happen only in transparent proxy mode.

    This behavor must have had started around astaro version 6.5 or 7 maybe.

    However, disabling virus scanning solves the issue. .. yes, bypassing streaming content is thicked.

    I've spent a lot of time with that issue investigating as the logs don't tell about blocked content or similar. At least it doesn't speak to me [[:)]]

    The only thing within all logs I've found (example of podcast download that doesn't work):

    Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to add an exception somewhere (exception list, skip list, web blocking list, filter list): so if a solution is know I'd very appreciate to learn about.

    Are you sure that you have the right line from the log file?  The one you posted shows that everything went through correctly.

    Hello Bob

    Thank you far asking back. 

    Lets put it that way: I couldn't find any other related log entries. So this is all I have. 
    I just came to my mind that I have investigated on that earlier in a post in this forum [1]. The issues about braking radio and face time streams (for face time it remained and solveable by switching off virus scan).

    So, consider this for a possible cause (not further investigated yet):
    - I am still doing something wrong :-)
    - The mentioned streaming providers send invalid heades, at least for cetain frames
    - the "do not consider stream"-flag just doesn't care under cetain conditions
    - streams are not discovered as streams in cerain conditions (my best guess)
    - virus scan does something beyond recognition

    If no solution is know and as I do not have an (obvious) miss configuration I may and go investigate on the system logs (I have reviewed the filter logs only so far). 

    Advice, hints and tricks are cerainly welcome. 

    Btw. I have recognized a slightly different behaviour if proxy is in normal mode (its transparent currently) but didn't go further on that.
