Can I remove Nortan Antivirus

I wouldn't get rid of the antivirus on the workstations.. The astaro won't prevent you getting a virus by one of your kids putting in a floppy, USB stick, or CD that has a virus on it.

Get rid of the bloatware formally known as Norton Internet Security and buy Norton AV.  Bruce is right though.  Desktop AV is a must

I agree with both post replies. ASG is good for first protection but there are other ways to get infected. My personal experience is that kaspersky is a very good AV and malware protection.

As the others have mentioned, you will want to keep some sort of desktop AV. 
 
It's part of a concept called Defence in Depth. For any necessary part of your security posture, you never want to leave yourself with a single point of failure. Another advantage is that since AV vendors work on their definitions independently, one vendor may protect you from a new threat that another may not be able to find for hours to days.
 
As an alternative to Norton, I've had good experiences with the free home version of Avast .

I am in the processing of setting up astaro v7 in my home.  I have norton internet security 2006 on all our computers, including 2 computers for the my kids.  Once Astaro is up and running, do I still need norton internet security?  It would be nice to get Norton off my PCs.  With Anti-virus on the firewall instead of the PC, it can't scan my files on the hard drive.  Is this a big deal?

Perimiter defence is part of the picture .. as everyone has rightly pointed out .. if your PC is genuine HOME use .. look at AVAST home edition !! No affiliation, just happen to use a copy at home !

AVG is pretty good, too.  If you are running Norton Internet Security, it is a waste (as someone else said).. if you can uninstall all the other garbage and leave NOrton AV on the machine, that's fine.. otherwise, look at AVG (or one of the other packages mentioned here).

I'm working with ASTARO since version 6.0 . All my clients have always Antivir (free Version) for searching Viruses, that come over Floppies or CD's or DVD's. 
It's a good Network, DSL->ASTARO->Clients, my ASG-License is within spam- and virus check.
I would deinstall Norton complete, then install a viruscheck as kaspersky or antivir to each client, al is ok.

Thanks for all the recommendations.  I do want to get rid of Norton.  I don't mind paying for antivirus software, I just want somethings that runs more efficiently.  Another thing I hate is the updating I have to do on my kid's computers.  They have XP Home and each kid has his own login.  The login type is "Limited User".   Under this login, the user doesn't have the rights to update Norton.  I have to login under my account (Admin rights) and update Norton.  I don't even like the fact that I have to update it at all.  I think it should do this automatically, regardless of the user logged in.  Even if update worked under the kids login, they aren't going to update Norton.  They're still in elementary school. They barely know what a virus is.

Of the recommendations in this thread (Avast, AVG, kaspersky, Antivir) is there one, or more, that also does a good job with spyware and malware (like Lavasoft's AdAware or SpyBot)?
