I/O timeout on content could not be loaded

I received the following message after upgrade to 5.018, while surfing:

Content could not be loaded  
     
     
   Please check the spelling of your URL.

Make sure that your proxy settings are in order.

The following lines may provide some additional information to the cause of the failure.



I/O timeout 

I did not change any settings. Any ideas?

    Not specific. I received so many of these messages that I couldn't surf last night. I got it on ebay.com, washingtonpost.com, astaro.org, et. al,.

    i can confirm this as well..it is random..i do not have content filtering on.  However i did have it on to experiment with it.  I then shut it down.  I have http proxy intransparent mode.

    I reenabled the content filter and began removing the settings.  I got rid of the profile ok..but when i tried to remove the content block category the system became unresponsive and lost connection to the internet.  Some of this is my box being underpowered.  What is interesting is surfing with the content filter on was not noticably slower than without..and load on the cpu did not jump but more than like 5%.  I bet the confd database still needs some speed tweaks.

    I got intot he content filter and got everything removed.  i then turned off the content filter and the problem has been solved.  Sot he content filter seems to have some kind of random issue.

    could you guys post the browsers you used when this happened? 
    did the page come after a refresh or was it "IO timeout" again?

    mozilla 1.7...this behavior shows itself on random initial page loads and random page refershes.  The workaround i found was to turn on the content filter..delete all profiles and assignments..shutdown the content filter.   If you leave profiles and assignments in there ans shutdown the content filter the behavior is still present.

    *update* as i tried to post this i got the error.  It seems once you turn the content filter on its on and will not go away.  I am now attempting a reboot to clear this up.  I only have http proxy on in transparent mode.

    Could you please have a look into your packetfilter log? Are there drops on localhost?

    AND

    Please run 'tail -f /var/log/*.log -n0' on console and open a page that generates the I/O Error. Post the result.

    since 5.018 the content filter is ALWAYS on. The button in the webadmin only disables all profiles and puts the content filter in passthrough mode. Maybe it has something to do with the transparent mode? could you try to reproduce the behaviour with the standard mode?

    nothing in packetfilter and the error is not consistent..but it is totally random.

    since the content filter is always on..there should be a way to turn it off.....what is the command used and/or what is the process name of the content filter.  Would the system still work if the content iflter process was shutdown?

    no, the system would become unusable (since all of the packetfilter rules are set to proc names)

    after upgrading to 5.018 and also same with 5.019 i have the i/o timeout problem very often.
