UTM to UTM LAN interconnect via RED L2 tunnel: how to get DHCP working?

Hi all,

We established a LAN interconnect via a UTM to UTM L2 RED tunnel. Everything works fine, except for DHCP. There is a DHCP server present at one end (internal lan behind the RED server), which doesn't work at the other end (internal lan behind the RED client). Is there anything that can be done to make it work?

  • I have two clients using the following approach, Jocky:

    • On the Client end, instead of making a separate interface, change the Interface that has the network that should get DHCP to "Ethernet Bridge" and add the redc0 NIC to it.
    • On the Server end, similarly bridge the Interface connected to the DHCP server with the reds0 NIC.
      • If you don't want to do that, there's a slightly-more-complicated solution using DHCP Relay in the UTM.

    Any luck with that?

    Cheers - Bob

  • Hi Bob, that's actually exactly how we have configured the RED tunnel. We have replaced the RED client machine 2 days ago by one with better NICs and more memory, plus we use a more stable and faster WAN uplink on the server, so we will repeat the tests tomorrow.
