As Mr. Schmidl from Astaro Support confirmed does the ASG only utilize Active Directory "USER objects" to validate email recipients if the "Mail Security" is set to "Verify recipients: In Active Directory".
Active Directory "CONTACT objects" with email address are completely ignored.
Microsoft Exchange uses those CONTACT objects with email address in order to validate and forward incoming emails to remote/branch offices. This is a common configuration for MS Exchange sytems that share one email domain in multiple locations.
I would like Astaro to also include CONTACT objects in the "Verify recipients: In Active Directory" mechanism in order to utilize this check. Otherwise this verification mechanism becomes unusuable for everyone who has CONTACT objects in the Active Directory because the ASG refuses delivery. Currently I see this check only implemented half and not paying attention to the full configuration capabillity of the Active Directory.
