[9.075][BUG] Local Content Database is not working

I agree that the feature should not be phased out. In many other threads the performance was estimated like without surf protection.
And for customers having long latencies a cloud based surf protection will lead to possibly not accepted responsetimes.

please provide values to the high latency discussion, my nearest server is approx 100ms away on average.
I was not able to discern any noticeable surfing improvement with the local database in memory, the proxy is just slow. Try surfing with and without the proxy and notice the difference, very significant.

Using a known test server, I find baseline ping times of 10-20 msec with the proxy off, and 160-180 msec with it on using the cloud database. I have not yet tried the disk or memory forms vs. the cloud.

If you are using satellite as primary network or 4g you may have pingtimes from more than 500ms. For satellite the connect to the server in tests is reported as long and would be longer with cloud based filtering.

Hi Ian, my sluggish home DSL is also 100ms from the nearest server. I am blocking all ads in content filter. Loading cnn.com home page gives me the screenshot below using developers tools (F12 keyboard shortcut) on google chrome and sorting by status. 

However if you look at the screenshot below, I am getting around 200ms latency and the total time to block the page is even higher than that. And that is for each blocked request with no DNS etc latency, or heavily bogged down UTM. If you add all the other unknowns, these numbers climb much higher.  With local content database, at least the categorization latency is almost gone depending on the speed of your hardware.

I have 2 ADSL services from different ISPs both services run around 4.5mb/s depending on the weather.

Lots of discussion about speeds and local databases etc. Also some interesting thoughts on Snort performance with a high power CPU. Need to turn snort down to one instance on both UTMs.

The Mantis ID #24255 is now being worked on. We are planning to release a fix for this issue in Version 9.100.
