Scheduled Restart

I would think so... CRON is still on V7.  I would take the advice in that thread, though, and schedule it to happen when the nightly maintenance processes aren't running... somewhere between 2:00AM and 3:00AM would be good... Midnight and 1:00PM are trigger times for spam reports and daily report compilations, so I'd avoid those time frames.

Will see if I can figure it out.  Somewhere in that thread someone suggested 4:00 AM.

This is for my home system, and whatever logs have to get processed should be finished way before then.

Ever since v7.1xx I am having issues where I have to restart the box perodically to get internet access on the box to work at all.  My wife and kids are starting to gang up on me, so if this doesn't work, I am just going to put my Wireless router back online and convert  the ASL box to a game machine.

It may be less secure, but it's more dependable.

What kind of connection do you have? PPPoE?

i'm curious as to why you feel the need for the system to reboot?

BarryG - Not PPPoE.  My ISP (TWC RoadRunner) uses MAC authentication so no username/password is required.  As long as I don't change NICs I don't have any problems.  If the MAC address should change, I just have to reset the cable modem to clear out the MAC and it will issue me another IP address. 

William - In my post prior to this one I stated that since v7.1xx I have to restart the box periodically to restore any sort of internet access.  I've taken to just logging on and restarting it whenever I think about.

So, if I can get the box to restart on some sort of schedule I can stop worrying about the thing working.  It stopped passing internet traffic to my home network over the holidays while I was over 900 miles away and my wife lost her internet access.  I was able to remote to the box ( so it wasn't actually down ) and after a restart of the ASL box my wife was able to use her e-mail and browse the internet.  So, I don't think it is any of my hardware.

If a daily restart will keep it working, I'm happy doing that.

I also have a similar problem, I have two links to my ISP, one link has a Linksys VPN router and the other I'm running ASG v7.101.  The ASG will freeze about every three days, most times I have to "pull the plug" to get it going. (I've run other versions of linux on this box with no issues)  Funny thing is that this freeze seems to coincide with my ISP's dhcp renewal time!  So maybe rebooting the system every night would be a good option.   The Linksys router never has a problem!
