Subscriptions not available on new server

Hi,

I'm working for a client to upgrade their Sophos management server, having problems locating software subscriptions and versions. I see a lot of "Software Delivery Failed".

The client have a tiny estate with one management server running SEC 4.7 plus 200 clients.

The old management server is Server 2003 32-bit. The new one will be brand new, running Server 2012 64-bit. My problems only show up on the new server.

I have built the new server and installed Enterprise Console 5.2.1 R2 no problem.

The servers are airgapped, unable to access the internet. Therefore a 600MB "warehouse" folder is provided to us internally from the company's internal "patch download service".

I have copied this 600MB warehouse folder to the new server, shared it and set it as the update location. However, here is where the problems start.

The only subscription which works is "10.0 Recommended". Creating a subscription for "Recommended", "9.7", or "Preview" all cause a "software delivery failed" error. Subscriptions for 10.2 or 10.3 do not even exist as a selection in the list on the new server!

However on the old server, the Windows 2003 one, this very same 600MB warehouse folder seems to allow 10.2, 10.3, 9.7, etc each to be selected.

Is there some reason for this? Is it because my new server is 64-bit? Is the "warehouse" folder that I am receiving internally missing something perhaps? How do I confirm which versions are present in my "warehouse" folder - isn't there any metadata in there for us engineers?

Thanks for input,

  • Hello abc12345,

dunno what this company's internal "patch download service" is and how the Warehouse is downloaded. Anyway, judging from your description it's a Warehouse "fitting" for the 4.7 server. It's not a question of 32bit vs. 64bit but the SEC/SUM version. Usually a SEC/SUM has an associated Endpoint version (4.0/9.0, 4.5/9.5, 4.7/9.7, 5.0/10.0 - after that they became slightly asynchronous). Not only is SEC's ability to support newer Endpoint versions limited, it also can't handle arbitrary warehouse structures and semantics. Therefore -when accessing the Sophos Warehouse - it only "sees" and downloads versions and (meta-)data it understands. Even more, there is no need for SEC/SUM to be "Warehouse-backwards-compatible". Please note also that a Warehouse can contain updates to SUM (and SEC) and these are definitely specific for the installed version (and of course missing for a different one).

How do I confirm which versions are present in my "warehouse" folder?

I hope the above already answered most of your questions. Specifically to this one - a version is present in an offline Warehouse if SUM does display and can download it. While in your case it can decode the metadata it expects a different content and/or structure for the products. In other words, the Endpoint versions you listed are present in the Warehouse, but in a format only understood by 4.7.

Thus you need the Warehouse built by a newer SEC/SUM version (ideally 5.1.2 R2/1.5.1).
