Possible to set up a remote console when local accounts were used on the server?

I've got 5.5 on a Windows 2008 R2 Server with local accounts, all working. Added the DCOM exception to the server firewall. Trying to get just the management console set up on an endpoint, I get to the part where it asks for the name of the computer that the Management Server is running on. I enter it, and it tells me "Connection to server failed." It gives me the option to continue, if I continue, it installs, and the resulting installed Management Console tells me I need to be a member of the Sophos Console Administrators group and be a member of the DCOM User group on the server. I was never prompted for any kind of credentials at any point, and these are all local accounts, so I'm not really sure where to go from here or if it's doable at all.

  • Hello Logan Jones,

when using local accounts on the management server the requirement for the Remote Console is that you use the same credentials (i.e. same username and password) on the remote workstation or server. IIRC you also need the Security Option Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts set to Classic - local users authenticate as themselves on the management server.

  • The same as the database credentials?

  • Hello Logan Jones,

no. You should have a local user (not necessarily an admin not even a member of Users), say RemAdmin1, on the management server who is member of the Sophos Console Administrators, DCOM and perhaps Sophos DB Admins  groups, on the remote machine also a RemAdmin1 with the same password.
