How to find computers which are not in the subnet?

Hello,

is it possible to add/find computers which are in other subnets?

When I search by IP Range, it cannot find my windows test computer which is in another subnet of my company.

edit: Nevermind, it just found an windows computer without Sophos Endpoint. But it doesnt find a computer with endpoint installed. I don't get it.

Thanks for any help!

  • Hello Markus w,

discover does not depend on whether the Endpoint software is installed or not. If you haven't already done so please see Information on discovering computers in the Enterprise Console and the linked article for IP range.

If a managed Endpoint version (i.e. one from a CID) is installed the computer should contact the server - if it's able to do so - and appear in the console, find or discover isn't necessary. OTOH if it can't communicate for whatever reason discover wouldn't solve the problem.

  • Thanks for your answer, I couldn't find detailed information about that in the doc.

Is the managed endpoint edition another setup file? I got the SEC and the Endpoint Software, but it looks like non-managed version. (I can jsut change the update-url)

  • Hello Markus,

if you install by running setup.exe from the CID (update share) it's the managed version (to be exact, except when you run it from the command line with the -mng no switch). The download from the Sophos site is the unmanaged version. Normally you can't change the update location for a managed install on the endpoint, only with the policy from the console.
