Large Download in 2017 Q2 will be over 100MB

Hi,

There is a massage from Sophos messenger "Sophos Product Update in calendar 2017 Q2 will be over 100MB". so please explain this download happens automatically or can we manage the process using a schedule time. Because we have more than 650 Sophos installed workstations around 15 sites and most of sites depend on 512kpbs VPN. If this upgrade initiate all over the network then it will worse scenario for me. please consider I'm not a Sophos engineer, just studying Sophos EC.

Thanks

  • Hello Chamara Wijayawardane,

once the update manager (SUM) has downloaded the new version and deployed it to the update location an endpoint that checks for updates will download the new version.
You can limit the bandwidth (down to 16kbps) used by an endpoint for downloading but it will then take about a day and some 30 endpoints will nevertheless saturate the line. For a start please see the Network overrun by update SAV 10.7.2 thread and article 119216, feel free to ask if you a further questions.

Anyway, you should change the subscription from Recommended to Previous Recommended now, this will give you some breathing space.

  • Hi Cristian,

Thanks for the valuable details which you gave. I have gone through the mentioned articles and gather knowledge about this endpoint upgrade process. please let me know the exact date of this version release (endpoint upgrade to 10.7.2)

    Thanks

    Chamara

  • Hello Chamara,

the version release dates article states, perhaps more than a little bit cryptically, that there isn't an exact date (updates are staged and are rolled out throughout each month - meaning not all customers will receive the new version on the same day, actually not the same week). Even for customers with Enhanced TAM support (whatever this is) it promises just more precise dates (emphasis mine).

  • Hi Christian,

In my case(low VPNbandwidth for version upgrade), i observed many articles regarding Sophos endpoint version upgrade. so can you please consider below methods and comment me.

    option 01.

if I want to postpone this upgrade select previous recommended option of the software subscription panel, change existing updating policy as previous recommended. I think this is the correct way for the postpone version upgrade. correct me if I'm wrong.

    option 02

Create a separate software subscription using previous recommended and make an additional update policy with the previous recommended setting, can I move to ten by ten workstations recommended to previous recommended update policy. because this mechanism works I can manage the VPN bandwidth smoothly or is there have any practical solution please let me know.

    Thanks

    Chamara
