Windows Server 2016 / Win 10 1607 Support

Hello,

I have started to migrate some servers to Server 2016 from 2012 R2. It seems that I can not remotely deploy from my Enterprise Console to a server 2016 box. I have manually installed it on those severs, and then manually changed the update information so they will update. My question is when does Sophos plan on fully supporting Server 2016? I can get by until it is fully supported but I am surprised that Sophos wasn't already ready for the release.

I've also upgraded some Win 10 machines to 1607 and have been getting an error regarding the firewall. I'm assuming that update isn't supported yet either. I had to reinstall the software but the firewall keeps saying "Failed to configure the firewall." then "Failed to update the filter rules, error: 80004005". I've since removed the firewall and have gone to the windows firewall but would rather use Sophos. Any news on Win 10 1607 as well?

Thanks

  • Hello TimHeckaman,

    I can not remotely deploy
you get The applied software subscription does not contain software this computer can use, don't you? It shall remind you that Endpoint is not yet supported for Server 2016 even though SEC is "2016 aware" since 5.4.0. (before the official release end of September and GA mid-October). Sophos isn't known for rushing out support for new platform versions. Protection doesn't simply sit just "on top" of the OS, and especially for servers "supported" should mean "proper operation" not just "we'll help you if it breaks something".
then manually changed the update information
Apparently Endpoint doesn't refuse to get installed - didn't the servers register with SEC? And anyway, if you run setup.exe from the CID the CID should be configured as Primary.

    Win 10 1607
There are several posts about issues with 1607, there are only a very few articles though (none related to SCF) and they mention unsigned drivers and Secure Boot. The Endpoint Defence driver is mentioned in the Release Notes but not SCF. It's a good idea to contact Support directly with the issue as only SESC (neither the UTM nor the Central Endpoint versions) includes SCF.

  • Does anyone from Sophos monitor these forums who can provide a roadmap for when we'll have SAV support for Server 2016? We want to deploy an RDS farm on 2016 but the lack of a supported Sophos client is holding us back at the moment.

  • Hello Gerrard Shaw,

    [I'm not Sophos, just a long-time customer]
Does anyone from Sophos monitor these forums - likely yes - who can provide a roadmap - likely no. These forums are not a channel for unofficial announcements. As mentioned SEC seems to be 2016 ready and apparently it's Endpoint that is not. The roll-out of 10.6.4 has been postponed several months for whatever reason  you'll likely won't get any definitive statement until they're pretty sure about the release date. Just my two cents.

  • Thanks for the input, really poor from Sophos to be so far behind on support imo.
