SUM keeps getting stuck at Starting to synchronize file

So I've just done an install of SEC and have been trying to get the SUM working.

But it keeps getting stuck at downloading binaries, I checked the logs and found this error

"Error Synchronize operation failed when synchronizing product release 'Windows Endpoint Security and Control'. Details: File copy failed."

After looking through the community I came across this https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-US/66176 cleared out the Warehouse and Working folders but still got stuck at downloading binaries.

Looking through the logs I've found that the update manager keeps getting stuck at the same file every time before it starts trowing errors

"Information Starting to synchronize file '65dc76b27875cf7e5f2e0b3b8fc2bde4x000.dat'..."

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

  • Hello NathanielHoh,

you've used the LogViewer, haven't you? What are the errors that follow? It's better to check the SUMTrace logs - the corresponding line would be:
    Cmd-ALL << [I1012][65dc76b27875cf7e5f2e0b3b8fc2bde4x000.dat] Synchronising...
The next line(s) should have details about the error. Sometimes a gateway interferes which usually results in checksum errors. Anyway, the logs will have more information.

  • Can you download this file from a browser:

    d1.sophosupd.com/.../65dc76b27875cf7e5f2e0b3b8fc2bde4x000.dat

Looking at it in a text editor it's actually the "MIME" magic file.

  • So just for reference these were the errors I was seeing in the log viewer

Error Synchronize operation failed when synchronizing protection data. Details: Corrupted local customer file.

Error Synchronize operation failed when synchronizing product release 'Windows Endpoint Security and Control'. Details: File copy failed.

Information Starting to synchronize file '65dc76b27875cf7e5f2e0b3b8fc2bde4x000.dat'...

However I came in the after the weekend opened up the management console and it updated just fine... Didn't make any changes so not sure what the issue was
