Removing and re adding managed computers

Hello,


I am currently removing old machines from SOPHOS Enterprise console that have not been on the network in a long time. Problem is that some of the machines may come back on the network later down the road. If I delete an object from the console will it repopulate itself if its put back on the network again? I tested it and now the machine is not showing back up. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello KyleVia,

    if you delete a computer in the console a flag is set in the database to mark it as deleted and it won't be shown (or considered for the various counters and reports) but otherwise its data (including group membership) are retained. If it later (can be months) contacts the management server again (assuming nothing has changed which prevents a successful contact) the computer object is undeleted and should appear in its previous group (or unassigned if this group no longer exists).
    Even if it has been removed from the database an endpoint will appear in Unassigned (as any freshly installed will do) - again provided its configuration is still valid.

    As said, a Delete will not remove historical data so testing should be safe. Take a test endpoint, shut it down, delete from SEC. The endpoint should reappear shortly after you've rebooted it. Is this what you did and the endpoint did not show?

    Hello,

    I'd like to determine if there is a way to remove old objects that are no longer managed by Active Directory syncronization?  The purge DB command will remove the unmanaged and stale objects from the database in the OU's that are visible from AD sync, but how do you clean the objects with definable parameters that are located in non-AD synced Organizational Groups?

    Hello JSchaff_T2,

    PurgeDB.exe neither takes group membership into account nor does AD sync make any difference. The rules apply to all computer alike so it's not clear what it is that you want. Could you please give one or two detailed examples?
