Update manager

Morning all

So update manager has had an update i see witch is nice, but most of my SUM,s wont take the update just saying software update failed. My question is is 1.6.0.2264 not compatible with server 2003 as this is what most of my SUM servers are. the ones that have taken the update are 2008 and up.

  • Hi Christian

yea that's what i thought had happened. iv just switched them all to extended for now as i dont think the company are willing to change the servers just yet. We do everything when ford force us to so when there parts server no longer supports 2003 we will have to upgrade then.

do you know how long it will be before sophos stops 2003 all together. we still have some kit on 2003 and xp. our main data store is a 2003 unit and i really can see them upgrading it in the next few years.

  • Hello Kurt,

you know I'm not Sophos or a partner so I can only guess.
There's (the) Endpoint (component) and there's SEC/SUM. For the former you can expect another year or so for XP(SP3) and 2003R2(SP2). Support for W2k has only recently been dropped finally after a several months' reprieve. The latest versions of the management tools already no longer support 2003,  legacy versions will continue to work, the planned retirement dates for SEC 5.x might spell the end of SEC5 line. I'd give SEC 5.3.1/SUM 1.5.8 no more than between one and two years. Thus the next few years shouldn't be too many.

  • Hi Christian

yes i did know your not sophos or a partner but you are a wealth on knowledge on here so just thought i would ask.

that's good to hear that they might not be dropping it yet i am going to try a push the company to upgrade there servers anyway as its all sat on very old and hard to get parts for hardware.

i remember the fun of when sec4 was end of life. i had over 100 clients running it. so you can image what fun i was having for a few weeks.

    thanks for your help bud.

    kurt.
