Failed to connect to the firewall driver, error 2. Failed to update filter rules, error: 80004005.

I have recently upgraded several computers on our domain network to Windows 10.

Since upgrading, SEC is reporting the error "Failed to connect to the firewall driver, error 2. Please restart your computer and, if the symptoms persist, contact Sophos technical support. [0xe0080834]" on 2 of the PCs and "Failed to update filter rules, error: 80004005. [0xe0140002]" on 2 other PCs.

I have tried restarting the computer and clean installing Sophos End Point Client. Neither has fixed the error. I notice SEC reports the operating systems as Windows 8 despite them having Windows 10 installed.

Any ideas?

    Hello John Ault,

please see the Windows Endpoint Release Notes under Known issues and limitations regarding upgrades to Windows 10 and SCF. Perhaps one or more items apply.

    Hello QC,

I checked through the notes. I would see this being an issue if it effected every W10 machine. But it appears to only be with machines upgraded from 7 to 10 specifically. The console shows "Differs from Policy."

  • Hello John Ault,

maybe I'm misunderstanding your posts - I see some issues (all with Windows 10 support in the Comments column) mentioning upgraded to Windows 10  or other phrases to this effect. I'm not saying that they apply though. If SCF doesn't work correctly Differs from policy is the logical result.
