databackuprestore backup registry on Windows XP Build failed wow64disablewow64fsredirection

Hello Community,

I searched the forum and googled for my problem but did not find a solution.

I want to migrate Sophos Enterprise Console (5.2.2.) from an old Windows XP 32-Bit VM to a new Windows Server 2008 R2 VM.

I use document 'Sophos Enterprise Console server to server migration guide' from April 2015.

I get an error while backup the SEC data on Windows XP with databackuprestore.exe. I figured out that the problem is the backup of the registry.

I get the following error when I run databackurestore.exe to backup registry.

Unable to find an entry point named 'wow64disablewow64fsredirection' in DLL 'kernel32.dll'

The backup of the database and securestore are running fine.

Is there a solution for my problem?

Would it make sense to install a new SEC on the new server and 'import' the existing sophos endpoints? How would I do this?

Thank you very much!!

Daniel

  • Hello Daniel,

Sophos Enterprise Console (5.2.2.) [on] Windows XP

really? While XP is still among the supported platforms for the Console component (aka "remote console") it's not supported for the management server (but apparently it didn't refuse to upgrade). Anyway, there was a time when DataBackupRestore didn't exist and all export/import and backup/restore was done by hand. Simply export HKLM\SOFTWARE\Sophos\Certification Manager\ (as CertificationManager.reg) and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Sophos\EE\Management Tools\ (as ManagementTools.reg) - don't forget to insert Wow6432Node\ before importing.

  • Thank you! This was a very helpful advice.

I have exported and successfully imported the database and registry settings.

I also edited the registry settings to match the new server settings. I followed the server migration guide without any problem.

But now a have a very strange problem. I can start Enterprise Console and my clients and settings are shown but the whole program freezes. I am not able to click anything. I have to kill it with taskmanager.

I corrected a mistyped database password in registry but the problem still exists.

Does anybody know what to do?

  • Hello Daniel,

reminds me of Enterprise Console frozen after Server to Server Migration. Can't say what gave trusak the idea to delete this key and if it helps in your case. Otherwise - assuming you have a similar issue - Support seems to have a solution.

  • Hello Christian

I asked the Sophos support for the mentions script and it worked. The Enterprise Console is running fine!

    Thank you very much.
