[Solved] Sophos Enterprise Console - Updating external Users - How to configure?

Hi,

i have read through faqs and forums, but its not clear to me.

We have Sophos Enterprise Console (5.3.0) with approx 50 clients. Some of them are never on site with a Laptop.

How do they receive Updates?

Should they access my enterprise console from outside?(is the enterprise console running an webserver, or how does it work?)

can they get the updates from a sophos webserver? (if yes, which credentials should they use)

thx for any advice

  • Hello Gerhard Krickl,

    never on site
indeed never? How do you install SESC on them, would you like to manage them or not? BTW: Did you consider the Cloud product (I'm not a Cloud evangelist and don't know the pricing and feature details but I thought I'd mention it).

Basically you have to options (a "public" share is out of the question):
    1. a web CID (the default updating mechanism is SMB/UNC) - IIS is not required, could be some other web server as well
    2. Sophos as Secondary (for managed) or only (for stand-alone) update location, credentials are your license credentials (while obfuscated on the endpoint you can't control their use)

Feel free to ask if you have additional questions

  • Thx Christian.

Yes, they are once a month on site shortly, and of course also for the initial installation.

I entered Sophos with my licence credentials as Secondary. Works!

    Thanks !
