AutoUpdate from Sophos Server

Hi,

im currently trying to get a second update server going for our clients.

Currently we use our own UTM 9 as the primary update server so i tried to setup the sophos server as the second update source.

An ip address or anything is apparently not needed because of the option for "Sophos". The username and password as i recall is the same we use to activate our sophos(the license user/password if you will).

Now, i seem to do something wrong here because the update fails everytime when i try to update from out of the companies network.

Searching in the logs i found the two following errors(loosely translated from german):

1. Skipped downloading from Server Sophos due to Minimum-Intervall Restrictions

2. Skipped downloading the product Sophos Patch Agent from Server Sophos because its not available in this directory

They dont show up together, its either 1 or 2.

The first one seems to pop up because my update intervall is less than 60 minutes, which is fine i guess.

Now, the second one is the one i dont really get.

I hope you guys can help me out here.

  • Hello RenéGagneur,

you're correct about the first one. As to Patch - it always downloads its Patch Data from the from the on-premise server using a mechanism different from AutoUpdate. Thus updating the Agent when the Primary server can't be reached wouldn't make sense anyway.

  • Hello QC,

my goal is to provide updates for our clients which are not in the companys network.
If i understand you correctly, which i think i dont, the Sophos Server as the Secondary server isnt the solution to my problem, is it?
If it isnt, whats the right way?
  • Hello RenéGagneur,

if the endpoints are never on the company network you normally install the stand-alone version (sans RMS and Patch). Otherwise one publishes the required CIDs with a web server.
