Is it possible to disable 'download security software wizard' in 5.3.1 and configure the whole thing to install locally?

as the post says because the network is real slow

  • I guess I just need to demonstrate ( a presentation for my company) whereby I will first install the se-console, then add comps and do some remote protect. It will take a very long time if the wizard is going to start downloading after installation finishes.
  • Hello pyeiphyoaung,

    a presentation
I see, but: I will [...] do some remote protect - for this you will need the software deployed (i.e. at least one CID populated) - and to deploy the software you have to download it first. There's one thing you could do though (guess it should be considerably faster), create a folder (say, SophosDowndloads) on the demo machine and share it, copy the \Warehouse (from a server with the appropriate subscriptions) to it, in the wizard specify \\DemoServer\SophosDowndloads as update source. I think this should work.

  • Ok, so now i'm trying that but the wizard seems to go straight to download. Where 'in the wizard' can I specify the path?
  • Hello pyeiphyoaung,

it's ages since I've used the wizard - seems (not surprisingly) to assume Sophos. Simply cancel the wizard, then configure the SUM manually.

  • yup, didn't cancel the wizard actually but I copied the warehouse into the share and let the wizard run in background and now it let me protect. cancelling the wizard freezes the protect function. thanks anyway but can I stop the downloading?

  • Hello pyeiphyoaung,

don't think you can cancel a download once it's in progress.
Dunno when Protect becomes available (the sensible thing would be when Last updated has a value and is no longer Never). The best sequence is probably: Cancel the wizard, verify (View/Edit) the Recommended subscription, View/Edit configuration add the share as (only) Source, make sure Recommended is in Subscriptions under Subscribed to, finish the configuration. SUM should start the "download" from the local share - guess it'll take a few minutes at most (meanwhile you could demonstrate groups and computers).
