Device Control Policy Exemptions not working for FireWire devices

Hello, I'm trying to block removable devices using Device Control Policy - but I have Exemptions set up for a few external drives. For example I am currently testing in OS X with a standard LaCie 1TB external Harddrive, it has USB and FireWire, so depending how you plug the drive in it can have one of two Device IDs in SEC (using v5.3).  Our testing with multiple machines, and multiple drives, has shown that the Exemptions work properly for USB, but not for FireWire; SEC blocks the device even though it is Whitelisted when it is plugged in with FireWire - but it does not block it when Whitelisted and plugged in with USB.

Device Control is a priority for us but some of our departments must use external drives w/ FireWire. By chance does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?

  • Hello deaton.

you have certainly verified that the exempted and reported ID match. Device Control is supposed to be port-agnostic and I expect that this should also apply to exemptions, and AFAIK there are no port-specific issues documented - thus you should open a case with Support.
