SEC, parentSUM update but error on logviewer

Hello,

I need advice for the problem, our SEC was getting errors since 25/10/2015 and continue till now.

I have done to delete content working, warehouse and CID. Reconfiguring our parentSUM and parentSUM is updated, but have error Software Delivery Failed.

It makes our clients are not update and errors to high. Most of clients are not update since 26/10/2015.

  • Hello RSYD,

please indicate which SUM is which and from which SUM the screenshots are. It's not absolutely clear.
I assume PARIKESIT is your SEC and parent SUM, correct? Its Last updated is recent so it doesn't look like a complete failure. To assess the situation first View Update Manager Details - there might be a more specific error description. As for the Logviewer: You have to read it bottom-up, and it's usually the first error in a cycle which is significant (those at the top are only subsequent ones). In Logviewer scroll down to the start of the cycle (note the "jump" in the timestamps), then look for the first error above - this is normally the important one. Same procedure applies to the child SUMs (you'll likely have to check only one - and perhaps solving the issue on the parent makes those on the child SUMs go away).
The information so far might still not suffice and the next step is the SUMTrace log - again it's important to find the start of the update cycle. Search for a line containing [I1021][ActionSyncSupplements] and ending with started.... From there work down until you find a line with an error. If its meaning is not obvious post it here (together with some surrounding lines).

The endpoints updating from the child SUMs are naturally not up to date. On your Endpoints screenshot there's also an error indicator - what errors are these?

  • Hi Christian,

Yes, our parent SUM is parikesit. It's look like updated on parikesit, but when parikesit check new update there's have error 'Software update failed' and i check to logviewer, there's have error 'Decoding of product release Windows Endpoint Security and Control version RECOMMENDED was not done because synchronizaztion failed'. I've done to follow this step www.sophos.com/.../66176.aspx but still getting the same error.

  • Hello Rosyid,

    synchronization failed
is the primary error, the Decoding is a subsequent one. The article describes common causes and resolutions but it's not exhaustive. As said, the Logviewer information is likely not enough as it's too general and you'd have to check the SUMTrace log.

Is this what you mean? If this, what should i do?

  • Hello Rosyid,

yes, that's the log. Quite strange though that it almost immediately fails with The warehouse source list has been exhausted but no other message. Is this from PARIKESIT, the update location is Sophos and when you (re-)entered the credentials you didn't get an error pop-up when saving the configuration?

    Christian

  • Yes, this is from PARIKESIT. No, i've no error pop-up.

But, in this morning SUM is getting error ‘Software delivery failed’ dan on logviewer errors:

‘Decoding of product release Sophos Update Manager version RECOMMENDED was not done because the synchronization failed’.
‘Decoding of product release Sophos Patch Server version RECOMMENDED was not done because the synchronization failed’.
‘Decoding of product release Sophos Enterprise Console version 0.0.0 was not done because the synchronization failed’.
‘Decoding of product release Windows Endpoint Security and Control version RECOMMENDED was not done because the synchronization failed’.

Always show the errors like this, what is causing this problem

  • Hello Rosyid,

I've poked around and have no idea what causes the warehouse source list has been exhausted  which indicates the "parent of all errors" and I also don't know how to wrest more information from SUM. The few warehouse source errors I've heard of were always preceded by some download error. SUM seems to be able to connect and receive some data - but this is just a guess.

I'd suggest that you contact Support directly telling them that you get this the warehouse source list has been exhausted. If you haven't changed anything around Oct 25th when the problems started the issue might not be on your side (BTW - did you know you can check your license details online?). Personally, as I'm snoopy, I'd trace what SUM is requesting and downloading (using Wireshark or a proxy) though this might or might not help to get to the bottom of it.
