Sophos failing to uninstall

Having a problem getting Sophos to uninstall properly. The PC in question was not updating so I tried check the configuration but the Endpoint Console would not come up for me. It looks like the program had become corrupt. I try to uninstall in the usual way and it appears to be uninstalllin but then rolls back.

I tried a script I found somewhere on the sophos site to uninstall manual (basically delete a bunch of files), I then deleted everything sophos that i could find including registry.

But problem persists. I can reinstall Sophos endpoint but it does not function properly after being installed. The consolw will not open and updating does not work.

  • Hello shane mcdonald,

    I can reinstall Sophos endpoint
which product line (on-premise SESC, Central, Home, ...) is it, how or with what do you reinstall?
There's no (or there should be no) script that deletes a bunch of files in order to uninstall. If the uninstall isn't performed with the Windows Installer then the state is inconsistent and I suspect the reinstall doesn't really succeed. Please check the latest uninstall and install logs (in either your user's %TEMP% or \Windows\Temp\) they should have some details on the failed actions.

  • Thank you. Your reply led me to understand the retarded nature of my actions. I ran an msi cleanup tool to correctly remove the leftovers of the failed uninstall. Now reinstall has gone ok and console is opening.
