Computer vs User groups

New user here (former Trend user), so please forgive my newbie type question.  I have my users set to come in via AD Sync using an OU with Sophos user groups.  These user groups are then assigned to a policy (if there is a policy that applies to them outside the base policy).  Since I have user groups assigned to the appropriate policy, is there any need to assign computers to computer groups?  Shouldn't the computers assigned to users automatically get the appropriate policy?  Is there any need to create computer groups and assign specific computers?

  • No need unless you want to manage it that way.  Up until rather recently, Sophos Central only allowed user based policies apart from on servers when it was per server.  You can now choose to go down the policy per user or policy per computer.  It's up to you now as to what best fits your requirements.
